I had my students reading this book in English when I was teaching in an English school a few years back and found it very useful then. When I found the Magic Tree House in Japanese I was excited to give them a shot. As expected I found them just as useful for myself. It is a great series to get an upper beginner started reading a legitimate book in Japanese. After reading a few of these books, the hardest part is keeping myself interested in the story, as it is kept simple for children. With that said, the excellent material is just too good to let pass. This whole series (and especially this first one) comes with my highest recommendation.

I’m reading this right now and really enjoying it. I’m about to take the N3 test in a little over a month and I feel like it’s a very comfortable read. The grammar is straightforward and I know a lot of the vocab so it’s easy to stay engaged. Also I really liked this series as a kid so it’s really nostalgic. 🙂 Anyways, I would also recommend it to someone hovering around the N3 level, especially someone like me that considers reading to be their weak point.

Amanda, thanks so much for the comment! I’m glad you are enjoying this book. If you are not having an issue with it I think you will do just fine on N3. Good luck on that, and happy reading!
